Always appreciate your insights, but please remember that the USVI and Puerto Rico are part of the US!

    • Levi says:

Yes – apologies for how it sounds. I always specify USVI and PR separately, because most people envision the continental United States when “US” is heard. I had the same problem living in Alaska because most people exclude it as well when thinking of the map. I should specify “continental United States.”

FWIW, I live in Puerto Rico (though not a PR native) and I bleed red, white, and blue, and I have never felt slighted by your commentary. So I understand the overall point Kate is making, but you’re not teaching a geography class. For example, if you single out Nantucket Island for receiving Jose’s wrath on Wednesday, that doesn’t mean you think Nantucket isn’t part of the US. We understand what you’re saying.

Keep up the awesome reports! They’re potential life-savers, and that’s not hyperbole.

      Thank you.

I so appreciate your insight and technical knowledge. You have a wonderful ability to explain the different weather phenomena and how they interact. Thank you so much.

  • Gavriel says:

Seriously Levi what an amazing commentary and Insight you hand over to us everyday. I’ve been following other channels for years and nothing comes close to yours! Thanks so much.

  • Angoe says:

Your commentary is wonderful. We live in FL and anytime a storm makes its way near the outer. Rain dan islands we begin tuning into your updates as soon as the kids go to bed. Your calm yet cautionary voice is much easier to listen to and absorb info from than the fanatic can elsewhere!

Levi, I live in Houston and have been blessed to have Neal Frank locally for years after his tenure leading the NHC in Miami.
At this early stage of your career, you get more insight into ten minutes than 99% of the forecasters available to the public and do it with a great demeanor.
I hope your users will support you on Paypal.

Levi: You are the best; calm delivery yet direct and compelling. Thank you for your unsurpassed knowledge of the weather, esp. cyclonic activities in our hemisphere.

We lived in Puerto Rico from ’65-’76; plenty of hurricanes came along during that time, but seems if theycrossed into the Western Caribbean early, say, through the Lesser Antilles, we were okay and same if they went north of the Lewards the hurricanes missed us. Not so now; a new borealis effect maybe.

It does seem unbelievable that it was only a little over week ago that we were tracking another cat 5 through a broadly similar area. Maria went to 160 mph on the 11:00 update, and we can only hope it doesn’t follow Irma upward in intensity. Domnica is relatively large, and mountainous enough that a direct hit might knock Maria down little. Unfortunately, Maria has about 24 hours of open water ahead, and it’s not likely to be less strong than the 160 mph it is now when it makes a pass close to St. Croix and what looks increasingly like a direct hit on Puerto Rico. The last direct hit there was Georges as a 115 mph storm in 1998. That killed 12 people and caused $2 billion in damage. Maria is likely to be much worse if it stays on the forecast track.

    Regards, Jim .

Is it possible for two tropical storms or hurricanes to come together and coalesce? Has it ever been observed?
