What effects does the cooler water in the Northern Gulf of Mexico have on Delta? What threat is it to New Orleans?

  • John says:

Wow this year has really been GOM intensive. I have lived in Florida since 1995. Most years the bulk of storms approaching the US seem headed toward Florida, with many curving off to the Carolinas, etc. Sure, some storms come from the GOM. Or like Katrina & Wilma, impact So Fla, cross the gulf then impact Louisiana. But it seems this year has been many more in the gulf, than threatening the east coast of the US.

    • Jake says:

      Not always the case

But this time of year you do see Florida impacted much more than the Gulf Coast.
But prior to September the Gulf Coast is a magnet for tropical systems

  • Shawn says:

A very active season in comparison with the 2005 season For ex. Rita vs Laura Katerina vs Sally and now possible Wilma vs delta all three in comparison where out of the GOM with tracks having a liilte but of similarities so my there friends in the USA is to follow the advisory the expert because I won’t suprise if delta reaches cat 4 status before existing western Caribbean Sea. Let see how it plays out.

I know Levi has to mention even the slightest chance of the hurricane staying as far west as Houston. The Cougars finally get to play football Thurs nite. I would not want to have to play that team if they got postponed again.

      • Jake says:

        Cougar High should be alright…

Find out more after it passes over the Yucatan.
But even then the impacts should be after Thursday

I remember keeping a eye on Hurricane Mitch way back when, even from Cocoa Beach at the time.

  • Bonni says:

A woman at the Navarre Publix told me she saw this morning that it had been moved up to a cat four. Eek! Needless to say, the gas stations are full. We found out that our genny went kaput during Sally a couple weeks ago. Someone from Hurlburt field loaned us one. I hope he will help us out this time, too.

    • Bonni says:

As this system continues to move westerly, it appears that we may not need a genny. Prayers going up for LA!!!

It appears to me that Delta is undergoing eyewall replacement

    • Bonni says:

Please tell me what “eyewall replacement” means. I got my undergrad in geology, but that was ages ago. THANKS!

  • Anonymous says:

Wow! In twenty minutes we go from cat 3 to cat 4! crazy

  • Zen says:

It is developing eye not replacing, if it was it would be high end 3. I expect 165 or 170 mph peak from Delta.

  • Anonymous says:

this is a powerful cat 4!

  • Zen says:

It is getting strong fast that is why.

  • Zen says:

It will be a 5 to with a peak of 170 maybe.

  • Zen says:

Still i have been waiting for the eye all day.

By the way we are in for the most active season on record. Currently two storms behind 2005’s end.

My last comment said By the way we are in for the most active season on record. Currently two storms behind 2005’s end.

  • r says:

I think this will either be a border line case, or become a second Wilma.

  • Zen says:

    Yup

  • r says:

One of the models is going crazy! They are predicting a 225mph peak!

  • Wyatt says:

Is there still a chance that Pensacola, Florida could be impacted by Delta?

  • Zen says:

Sure, not likely though. My peak for Delta is 170mph winds and 923 millibars.

  • Zen says:

    Sigh
