  • Jackie says:

We wait until it emerges from the NW tip of Cuba to determine where it wants to visit in Florida. Thanks again, Levi.

      Thank you!

    • Jeff Handler says:

Well you would think we would be getting more updates. This website is aged news. Pretty surprising as it was linked on Drudge Report, finally got some hits and buzz and the creator fell asleep or got into something last night. If he fails in basic website maintenance how can we trust him? Leaving for good.

      • Alexandrina says:

He has been giving one update daily and has been consistent in that. I feel very blessed to get this kind of coverage. For live coverage, follow your local news.

        • Eric says:

Yeh man, he gives great updates once a day. Follow your local news channels and the NHC for more regular updates, but for detailed analysis, check in here once a day. Levi says right at the beginning of every single video. Follow your local for the most up-to-date info!!!!! Thank you Levi, I have learned so much from your posts don’t let Jeff ruin this for us!

        • Tracey says:

          Agree

        • Anonymous says:

Dingbat- this a real time storm with decisions being made by the minute. If he wants to play weatherboy- he needs to get in the game.

      • mort says:

        jeff
        you must be new here.
        Levi does an amazing job.

And as far as I know, he only does one report per day.

So quit complaining, and if you need more info, go to https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

they update all day long and have satellite images under the Tools menu.

also, another good one is https://www.youtube.com/c/MrWeatherman

but once again only updates once per day.

        good luck fella.

      • JMW says:

        Promise?

      • Dooley says:

If you want speculation and hype tune in to your local news. These storms are slow to develop and move. The NHC gives 4 times per day and the information is not nearly as precise as you’ll get from Tropical Tidbits.

      • Amanda says:

There’s always one that looks for anything to complain about. He has always posted regularly once a day when a storm is coming. He updates the maps regularly and his videos are calm and super informative. If your looking for hype I recommend the weather channel.

      • Jerry Stahr says:

Chill out, Jeff. Levi does this on the side and has for almost 20 years now. He does it for real as a forecaster at the Joint Typhoon Warning Center. With everything going on in the Pacific he is pretty busy.

      • H says:

No good deed goes unpunished. Levi’s doing this for free and I love the info. I live in SW FL and I appreciate Levi’s calm and reasoned daily summary. If you want a weatherman in a yellow raincoat standing out in the rain and wind yelling at you then watch cable news.

  • Ben C says:

    Excellent information! Thank you!

  • Scott L says:

Thank you Levi, your videos and tutorials are fantastic!

  • James J Mulcahy says:

Just started getting our first rains associated with this storm. At first just a fine mist, but now a steady rain. Western suburbs of Fort Lauderdale, right where you see the Expressway (along Everglades) break off to the right/northeast.

  • BeachFoxx says:

    Thank you Levi!

  • Suz Brockmann says:

    Thank you so much!

  • Thomas H. White says:

    Good Info…thank you very much!

  • chris evans says:

Excellent video. The facts people need are provided here in sane, steady fashion.

  • Richard Bist says:

Thanks for the update, Dr. Cowan. I appreciate how you break down the data and make it easier to understand.

Looking forward to your next update. Cheers!

  • Daniel B says:

This is great info – thank you! Which website do you use when you are showing the various model runs, the wind barbs at the different levels, etc? Is that site publicly accessible?

  • KATIE RATLIEFF says:

Thank you Levi for the videos. I have personally loved the ICON model with this storm. I’m informed, prepared but not worried. Thank you for your informative videos that breakdown what’s happening. Can you include different models in your videos besides the GFS and the EURO? Like the NAM, the navy model and ICON. Just so people know about the other models and their accurate they have been with this storm. Keep up the good work and I look forward to more of your videos.

    • Travis says:

He has discussed other models in past videos, but generally GFS and Euro are the main ones used by meteorologists for tropical storms.

  • Patty says:

Thank you Levi excellent video love watching you explain the steering mechanism of the storm after so many years of watching the hurricane move and not one would explain its movements which I was never satisfied with I like understanding on how things work.

    Thank You Levi

  • Anonymous says:

Dr. Rick Knabb of TWC says Busch Gardens could be under water!

  • Ray says:

Thank you. Always a pleasure following your informative and educational videos. A breath of fresh air as opposed to hysteria.

  • Susan B. says:

How accurate is the experimental NOAA HAFS v0.35 Model? The 12Z run today for hour 63 is pretty darn scary. It shows the wind speeds at 10m going into Tampa Bay at around 80 MPH. That’s a lot of wind and a lot of water being pushed. Thanks for all that you do Levi. I am sure you have saved many lives over the years.

  • Carl M says:

I don’t think I’ve been this scared since Hurricane Charley hit in 2004.

  • Carl M. says:

I’m thinking this could cause torrential rain and catastrophic flooding in Asheville, North Carolina like they’ve never seen before.

  • Kevin says:

Tropical tidbits has been my go to for storms for almost 20 yrs now… Idk why it’s so hard to get “truthful” forecasting, like we get EVERYTIME from tidbits… Knowing the difference of where it crosses Cuba is huge… But all we hear over here in Tampa is “where all gonna die”!!! Run for your life!!!! It’s gets old and can be dangerous… Since where in the projected path, it’s a must to have detailed info!! Thanks so much

  • Please do something says:

Jesus buddy- it’s Prime Time and you disappear? 18 hours between video updates? Your FSU degree is showing!! Step up

    • mort says:

      ridiculous comment

I will repost for you what I said up above.

      • Cindy says:

Actually we should have been updated more frequently than every 24 hours. Such a fast moving storm coupled with the imperfections in forecasting demand that. 3 million homes are deciding to evacuate right now. They dont have time to wait 24 hours. So I agree that this site is more summary of what has transpired than forecasting. Please dont attack me like you did the others.

        • Dave says:

You do realize that Tropical Tidbits is a side-gig for Dr. Cowan, right? He’s a research meteorologist and has a “real” job doing forecasts for the Typhoon Warning center, IIR. So instead of griping about what you want, try being thankful for what you have. As far as evacuations go, if you’re daft enough to rely on a once/day blog for guidance here, you’re looking in the wrong place. This is what your local EOC is for.

          Do better, Cindy.

          • Jason Heard says:

You do realize he is not a real Dr dont you?
Look, he got linked by Drudge and then dropped the ball. He is not a real time forecaster, at least not on this website.

          • Anonymous says:

I’m not sure what Jason Heard is trying to say, Levi has a PhD in meteorology and works for the JTWC

        • I’m certain that Levi wants to give updates regarding the storm more frequently, but perhaps he doesn’t have the time to do it. He is a tropical cyclone forecaster at the JTWC, and that may limit his ability to provide updates. If you really want frequent updates regarding the storm, nhc.noaa.gov is providing updates on an hourly basis.

    • Gail says:

You do realize this is not his job. He has a career and life in Hawaii. I for one am extremely grateful that he continues to provide his detailed information and analysis for the Atlantic storms.

  • Michael says:

Thanks Levi for this amazing resource, and all the work you put into this project for free!

  • Carl M says:

This is going to be a very expensive hurricane. Possibly 200 billion dollars when it’s over.

  • homelander says:

anyone that actually knows what they are talking about, what is your take on the coast of NC, more specifically, Wilmington. I see some models continue to push east. How long will this continue?

  • GAIL says:

I agree Dr Cowan’s clear and detailed information is extremely helpful. But I also have considerable empathy for the officials in Tampa preparing for the worst. It takes time to evacuate hundreds of thousands people. They don’t have the option to wait until there is total clarity to make evacuation decisions. It would risk too many lives.

  • Deborah says:

Thank you from Tampa residents! Nice to see all the info so clearly and cleverly presented.
